The Terraces - Ayala Center Cebu

The Terraces Ayala Center Cebu

the terraces ayalaAyala Center Cebu, one of the biggest mall destination here in Cebu finally opened another exciting and new place to venture, The Terraces. As Cebu Holdings President Francis Monera said in a press conference, “We named it The Terraces because one will walk through a terrace-like ambiance that gives you the feel of being in a resort.”

Having my first step inside reminds of the first time I set foot at Greenbelt malls. The uniquely designed railings, curved nicely to make it look like your very own terrace and those strips of wood (I don’t know what its exactly called) that covers the stairways were much like that of Makati’s Greenbelt malls.

As far as I could remember on my college days, this place was a lagoon filled with green still waters. Now its filled with life and green plants. Not to mention the people that come and goes there, to dine, to take a stroll, relax, drink coffee, enjoy the view, and meet new people. As for me and my daughter, it’s a place to pass time away, took some pictures of the place, and make her go running around safely.

Here are some photos I took, not a good catch though, but its enough to make you wanna go there yourself. Enjoy everyone!

Criselda Volks Scandal Controversial Video

I can’t believe it myself, another hot video search is burning over the internet wires. This time from a controversial teenage celebrity.

Criselda Volks once surfaced on the news on her suicide attempt, drinking detergent soap and liquid bleach. And now with this alleged video sex scandal with Malaysian boyfriend.

Criselda VolksAs what did Ogie Diaz wrote in his column (Phil Journal):

According to an interview, Criselda did admit she was the one in the video. She did not expected it to come out.

Yellow Caterpillar Roll - Sushi

Yellow Caterpillar Roll

It was a quite day at the hotel, another time for creativity. Rolled a cucumber and crabmeat stick on a large piece nori, topped it with sweet ripe mangoes, then dressed up to look like a caterpillar. Cut a piece of olives for the eyes and black sesame seeds for the dotted look on the body. Creating this type of Maki Roll is fun and it adds another creation to the dynamic and ever changing style of making Sushi.

Waterfront Food Quality System Seminar

To arrive home early, this is what I got for attending the Waterfront Food Quality System. Other than getting home early, I also gained plenty of thoughts and additional info about the topic. Also, the best thing is getting paid for work for two days attending the seminar, not a rough life is it? Hope it would be seminar the whole month round!

Before I had the seminar, I did not know that the issue of food safety is that delicate and that it should be given utmost attention. Take for example; by just washing your hands before and during work you would be able to prevent the spread of phatogenic bacteria, which if taken internally may lead to a food borne illness. No wonder, Hand Washing is in the top list on the policies imposed.

Bacteria are microbiological organism that is unseen in our naked eye. Some are harmless and some are harmful enough that it could even paralyze and kill. Grrr. Bacteria could be transmitted in many different ways, and the food that we take are always at stake. And if not transmitted, it could grow on the food itself. Oh my, good thing our body is enough to handle a few amounts of it inside. However, if this amount exceeds its limit, it’s another story.

Luckily, because of HACCP, these food borne illnesses could be prevented or minimized. A reliable food safety is already being practiced; Waterfront Hotels in particular has its own way of reacting to this hazard.

HACCP or Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point is the main core of the system. Because of this internationally used system, when it comes to food safety, the Waterfront Food Quality Manual is derived. On this manual are policies listed to guide every individual (in or outside the hotel, which is directly or indirectly in contact with its food products) in handling food items. From proper hand washing, correct food temperatures, required government permits, to maintaining clean equipments, etc.

Waterfront Food Quality System is a system Waterfront Hotels are using to maintain the best quality of their food products. Thus providing utmost food safety to hotel guests and clients.

My message to the guest, from the food suppliers up to your table, it is rest assured that the meal you are taking have undergone a rigid test within the system. Making you feel at home as if you yourself prepared your meal.

Colorful Sushi - Sushi Balls

Colorful Sushi – Sushi Balls

Another crazy creation by my crazy mind. Let me present to you colorful sushi balls. Sushi balls are made up of sushi rice shaped into a ball with your choice of diced stuffing inside, it could be cheese, tuna, salmon, franks, sausages, etc. Just make sure your ball is stiff enough to not let it fall apart when you dip in sushi sauce or soy sauce. After rolling your sushi ball, cover it with any coating such as ebiko (caviar), uburo (fish powder), or sesame seeds to give a colorful look. Wow. Good for parties and picnics!!!

Kawasan Falls – Escape to paradise

Kawasan Falls – Escape to paradise

kawasan fallsKawasan Falls Badian Cebu, a hidden paradise to a new out going individual, like myself. The trip was my first time to venture on that area. Many times I have heard the place, but never in my childhood years did I attempted to travel to that far place.

Located in the South Side of Cebu in the Municipality of Badian

The day started early in the morning at around 7 am, waiting for the V-hire at Citilink Terminal to be full. The driver said, we should wait until he will get at least 10 passengers. Well, the day is long and a minute of wait never hurts. At around 8:30 am the V-hire was now set to go. With only 150 per passenger fare, is relatively cheap compared to going to Baguio or Boracay. ^_^.. The driver told us that it would take like 2 to 2 and a half hours travel to Kawasan Falls.

It was not a rough ride at all coz we took the South Reclamation Project towards Minglanilla and after that, all was smooth riding. I have never been to the place, so I kept on asking my friends if we are getting nearer. We passed, Naga, San Fernando, Carcar, Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Moalboal, then lastly Badian, our destination finally. When we disembarked we decided to visit a little church just near the entrance of the riverbank towards Kasawan Falls. From there we could see the coastline of Badian and from afar, the mountains of Negros Island. The entrance fee to the falls was only 10 pesos! Hope so it stays that way.

kawasan fallskawasan fallsWe met some people around and they are very friendly and hospitable to tourist, even the ice cream man was full of smiles. I am proud to see Filipinos that way, despite the harshness of life.

Towards the base of the falls, we need to walk our way on the riverbank, which was not bad at all. The step was all designed for a comfy stroll.

You can even see people fixing things around to make it more beautiful. I can’t even remember how many small bridges we passed. It’s like walking in the park with a background of water rushing down towards the sea. It took us like 10 to 15 minutes to get there. Or was it more, I wasn’t able to keep track of the time coz most of my friends were chatting and was enjoying the walk.

kawasan fallsKawasan Falls from a distance

As we got nearer, the view of the falls could already be seen from a distance. It was a fantastic experience, or shall I call it a magical feeling seeing the white rush of water falling down on cool turquoise natural pool. When we got to the base of the falls, we took a 300 peso cottage, ordered some good food and got ready for the swim!

kawasan falls
But before we could take a dip, we decided to visit another falls just above the first Kawasan Falls, it was only by that time that I knew that there are 2 falls in one location, one above the other just a few walks upward. And a long hike up would take you to the dam. Well, for the adventurers, you try going up, but for weak hearts and knees, just stay behind falls 1 or falls 2.

The water was cold but tolerable. Clinging on to ropes for safety, you will enjoy the swim. Oh, the negative ions rushing cold to your body. Wow!

As the hours passed by, tourist started coming in one by one, taking a bath and some just did pictorials. The place was alive and I am happy seeing it that way, it guarantees that the Kawasan Falls will go a long way in time. For the next generations whose a stranger to his own country, like me, to experience. Well, I am thankful, that I was able to explore the wonder of my very country, Philippines, and in my very own place of birth, Cebu City.

Kawasan Falls is indeed a good place to start for a Cebuano in exploring his country land. If you have no less than 5 thousand pesos for a group of 6, you will be able to relax, distress, and enjoy life with nature.

Happy Halloween at Waterfront Hotel

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween is indeed something to celebrate about. Its not that we need to mourn for the dead, it’s a celebration of life too. People and kids go trick or treating, costume parties, carving pumpkins and telling ghost stories right before sleep. Not to mention the wide choices of ghost stories showcased by each television stations, that includes news and documentaries.
